Mechanical Breakdown Insurance is the easiest and least expensive way to protect yourself from costly, unexpected auto repairs. MBI is similar to an extended warranty or service contract you might buy at a dealership, but at a fraction of the cost. Our rates through American Mercury Insurance Company, a member of Mercury Insurance Group, are much cheaper because they are regulated and approved by the California Department of Insurance, whereas the dealerships rates are not. The Dealership may state they have given you a great deal on your car only to make a huge profit selling you an overpriced service contract because they can charge you whatever they want! Even if you have already purchased a service contract at a dealership, state law allows you to cancel within 60 days of purchase and get a refund and we can even handle the cancellation for you so you don’t have to deal with it! New Vehicles: Vehicles are considered NEW and eligible for protection if they are up to current plus 4 prior model years old and have fewer than 75,000 miles. The vehicle must still be covered by the full manufacturer’s warranty or the vehicle must be purchased within 21 days of the date of application. The NEW vehicle term begins on the date of application and at “0” miles on the odometer and continues for the number of months selected or until the number of miles selected appears on the vehicle’s odometer, whichever comes first.
Used Vehicles: Vehicles are considered USED and eligible for some protection if they are up to a maximum of current plus 9 prior model years old or have more than 75,000 or fewer than 150,000 odometer miles. The vehicle must be purchased within 21 days of the date of application. The USED vehicle term begins on the date of application and the odometer mileage. The term continues for the number of months selected, or until the number of miles selected has been driven, whichever occurs first.
